the odds...

Just a minor point, but my wife brought to my attention that I have (at best) a 50 percent completion history on my new year's resolutions. Even 2007, which was a pretty decent year, I only got about half of what I hoped.

She's a bit worried that I might be setting myself up to fail with goal number 8, which I'd think was funny, but only a select few would get the joke. Hippie Killer would get it. So would Laurel, though she wouldn't approve.

So... 2008 may be more interesting than I thought. I may have accidentally committed myself to some kind of potential karmic suicide pact.
Well, already 2008 is starting off on a weird foot. Should be a hoot.

I think it's logistically impossible for karma to be involved with suicide pacts. At least that's the idea that's going to keep me from being upset when I see the resolutions all fall to shit again this year.

What's the significance of the floating book in the painting?

Well, for the painting, I'm sure this is meant to be a representation of the word of God -which is spared from the fire. The painting appears to be early rennaisance. It is probably a condemnation of Guttenberg's printing press. I base that on the clothes...but Rebecca is the art teacher. I have a middling education and I'm probably wrong.
As far as the blog... well...it could mean lots of things, but what it means to me is anything written here is subject to change. I tend to identify more with the books in the fire than the book safe from it.

The doofus in me didn't even notice the floating book for staring at the fire and how neatly stacked it was. I sure hope it's floating, because if it's going in the other direction (hurled toward the fire) that dude stacking books into the flames is sure gonna get burned. On second thoughts, he deserves to get burned.

Buzz...,

If you ever find yourself building a campfire, remember this painting - that's exactly how a good fire is built.

I kind of thought that it was the Bible, impervious, and with Righteous Mock, denying the spiritually illiterate the higher ground, but I wasn't sure.

Now... as to the uninformative and blank tapestry... Thoughts, anyone?

The thing is... if I'm right...they're burning a stack of bibles. It's just those bibles are in German, not Latin.

All on the religiously dressed side are looking to the fire, but the ?secularly? dressed are looking at the floating book. I don't get that.
